The Squirrel Squad

If after stumbling onto this website and looking around a bit, you happened to notice quite a few squirrels, and many of those squirrels with some interesting looking friends, you might have also wondered what exactly is going on here. Well, let me tell you. It all started with the two friends you see up above here and who ended up becoming the first members of what would be the squirrel squad.
Squirrel meet toys
One of my nanny jobs was with this little toddler dude who loved to run. We found this beautiful park where he could do exactly that and just a really pretty park to enjoy our day. We weren't the only ones to enjoy being here and soon had squirrel friends introduce themselves and hoping we might share our lunch with them. We started bringing peanuts for them and because we were in the park just about every day, our squirrel friends got to know us and would come quite close and would then also sniff at the toys we had brought with us to see if there might be a secret peanut stash hiding in them. So, we brought toys especially for our little friends and I off course started bringing my camera because all this was just way too cute.
The cemetery squad
When it was time for my nanny dude to go to school and for me and him to say our goodbyes, I also thought I would be saying my goodbyes to my squirrely photoshoots. But as it turns out, my new nanny girls lived very close to a cemetery, one that many people visit to enjoy walks, or just enjoy some quiet time in nature and where the girls and I ended up spending many of our days during that time when the world shut down. And where soon we also became friends with the local squirrel squad, and I got a big smile on my face because this meant I could bring back the toys.
More toy shopping
I think none of us need a reminder how that lockdown time was and all of us just doing the best we could to find our way through it. The girls and I were super lucky to have this beautiful cemetery to go to. But I still had two little humans with me who were pulled out of school and not being able to be with their friends. And for me too, I was looking for anything to make me forget what was happening around us. So let the squirrel toy shopping start again! I had a great time coming up with new toy ideas. The girls enjoyed seeing what new toy would show up for the day, and they could then add to their own collection after the squirrely squad was done with it. And the squirrels probably thought us humans to be quite silly, but as long as there were peanuts, all is good.
Eventually we were all able to get back to our lives again and the girls returned back to school, and I said my goodbyes to them and hellos to my next nanny family.
With the cemetery being very close to where I live, I still go and visit the squirrel squad whenever I can, and also still bring a toy along with their peanuts, if only to enjoy being able to give myself the excuse to just lie in the grass with my camera and doing what I love doing the most, while watching these little friends still wonder what is up with this silly human, but as long as there are peanuts, all is good.
